thurday thoughts…

so i tend to do my best thinking in the shower, not sure why i think it is when my random brain really starts firing coherent thoughts first thing in the morning, usually i wake up with a million little things that i need to get done that day and it takes a few minutes and at least one cup of coffee to form them into streamlined plans of action.

i have finished my first grad school class, last night i turned in the 20+ page paper on comic books and juvenile delinquency in the 1950s. i am happy with it, i was not able to tie it to a major general election of the time period, i felt that if i tried the professor would know i was grasping at straws…not good. one down one to go!

this morning nick and i were watching t.v (he has been banned from ps3 for an undetermined amount of time) sportcenter was on and then the commercial break. first commercial, viagara…or shall i say viva viagra to the tune of elvis. with the two adults dancing then needing to leave the party early and enter an elevator to which nick says-with disgust i might add-“why would anyone want to do it in an elevator?” me “uhhh” (insert crickets in the background) “takes all kinds nick?” then he proceeded to put his shoes on saying “geeze an elevator, yeah right, good luck with that.” so i may be able to form coherent thoughts at this point in the morning however, reasonable responses as to why people may or may not have sex in elevators, is defiantly an afternoon discussion.

the very next commercial was an arbys commercial, perhaps you have seen it, a gentleman on his bed with candles all around asking his honey if she is ready yet, from behind a closed door she says yes and i am only doing this because it is your birthday, comes out dressed in an Arbys uniform with a sandwich and we see the gentleman on the bed get all excited and the arbys logo pops literally i think even with a little “boing” sound above his head. i had to laugh, first, nick didn’t get it, at least he didn’t say anything, i think he was still contemplating the physics behind having sex in an elevator and then i thought that is a lot of sex first thing in the morning on sportscenter.

as we were leaving for school nick was singing “Vivaaaaaa, Vivaaaaa, Viagraaaaaa” to which i promptly asked him to stop. it is probably already a theme song for 12 year 7th grade boys…

its just the beginning…

we arrived in seattle washington on a friday afternoon. we actually landed the same time as kevins brother and his family, so that made the meeting up a bit easier. after gathering our bags and getting our cars we headed to the hotel, checked in and went for a walk down to pikes place market. from the moment we set down i did not meet one single angry person. you know the kind who seem like you have totally ruined their day because you asked them to do their job, but i digress…

so we were up for almost 24 hours and finally got to crash. we got up early the next morning to drive to the house which was absolutely. undeniably. perfect. we had a view of seattle to one side and mount rainer on the other, with islands and ferrys in between. our first week was spent going on whale watches, going into the city and other little day trips. we even went to the Museum of Mysteries-translation-basement room with photo copies of newspaper articles on aliens and big foot and some really deep hole that no one seems to be able to find. it was quirky in one of the smaller quirkier neighborhoods in seattle.

our first saturday, we went to seafair and sat right on lake Washington as the blue angles buzzed the boats. it was the closest i have ever seen them and oh so very cool. i am a sucker for loud fast planes oh and the old ones too! after a bus ride to the monorail to the ferry to the car we found ourselves back in the “magic” house-i say that because it had everything, i mean everything!

dinner was cleaned up and the sky was clear, kevin and i took a walk down the Pier, there were people bringing their boats in and crabbing. we headed back to the house, but just before we went inside, on the beach in front of the house, with seattle to my left and mount rainer to my right, kevin turned to me, got down on one knee and said i love you in a way that still makes me melt. he asked me to marry him and i cried and said yes and cried and said omg a million times and i love you so much a million more times.

he had a diamond pendant from my grandmother made into an unbelievable ring, and also said “by the way, your dad approves of this” then things got blurry, lots of hugs from all the family, nick was so excited, cynthia called me aunt jen, eva welcomed me to the family and greg said congratulations and “wow thats a fricking gorgeous ring” then the fireworks from seafair were being shot off, we could see them over the hill, the stars were out in full force and i sat with kevin and a serious perma grin.

eventually i called my family, and what i mean by eventually is i really do not know what the time frame really was, but it was wonderful and exciting and i cannot believe that this is happening to me. that lasted the rest of the vacation.

p.s i will have pictures of the mountains, maybe the whales and some other things too, but not right away, my little mac mini is all full and needs a partner.

a love meme…

Thank you CuriousC, i saw this and totally had to do it! so here goes:

Are you deeply in love with your spouse or boyfriend/girlfriend? If you are, let’s try how well you remember the moments of your life with him. But before you put yourself in the hot seat please read the rules of this tag first.

1. This tag should be passed on to your friends.
2. Visit the blog of the person you’ve got this tag.
3. Leave a comment on her/his tag post. Be sure to thank her/him for this tag.
4. Highlight and link all the list of people who accepted this tag by visiting their blog site.
5. There are 10 questions that you need to answer but you will be the one to write the 10th question for the next person you want to pass this tag. Here are the questions. Be honest with your answers.

Let’s Start:

1. How did you meet your husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend?
funny enough, match.com

2. Where did you go on your first date?
we had been talking for about a week or so and decided to go out, kevin wanted to do something different so asked if i would be game for a haunted house then a movie or something like that. i had never been to a a haunted house and really didn’t like the idea of being purposely scared but i said sure. mind you i had just finished having a little surgery and the first night i could wear jeans was that date. we met for the haunted house, then spent hours, i do not remember how many, at starbucks just talking, then we made it to a late showing of flags of our fathers-he got me right away with the total history nerd thing!

3. When was your first intimate kiss?
our first date was on a friday, two days later we went to mystic and that was the kiss that stopped the world

4. How many girlfriends/boyfriends he/she had in the past? Do you honestly know?
three, but i do not ask much, rocky past that if he needs to share he will, i love him just the same

5. What is his/her ethnicity?

6. What is his/her favorite food?
food in general is always a good thing, but kevin has a bit of a sweet tooth and loves cookies and chocolate

7. What is he/she like if he/she is mad?
depends on the situation, if he is super frustrated at nick there is yelling, but most of the time he is very in control of his emotions and is able to talk things out, not sure if that is my influence or not

8. What are the things he/she did you thought is the most romantic thing he’d/she’d ever done?
there is always something little and thoughtful, like taking me to the carousel, or hiking or the gentle kiss i get in the morning

9. Describe how he/you proposed to you.
there has been no proposal yet, there has been talk and i know there is a ring in the works, not sure when i will see it, considering all of our money is going to our trip to seattle and a new clutch for his car…

10. What has been the biggest surprise about your signifigant other since you’ve been together?

some things may take longer than others, but i have never met anyone who will say something is going to happen/i will make this happen, and actually see it come to fruition.

so there you have it!

when did we grow up?

my sister just bought a brand new car. its so her and so practical and she went to the dealer, told them what she was going to put down and how much she wanted to pay each month, and she got it! if that is not adult, what is? when did this happen, i swear she just stopped eating chap stick. i have my little family, where i am responsible for a middle school-er i.e clothes, homework, bumps and bruises, bills, food (hello cooking?) the thing is, i just didn’t wake up to this, its been planned, i knew it was coming. humm, now we are looking for engagement rings, yes the “e” word is the next step, the element of surprise is a little gone because of the joint checking account, but not having the ring is the only thing holding kevin back (that is a loose translation of what he himself said)…crap i brought the butterflies and the light headedness. i have to go lay down again!!! how exciting!

oh and don’t forget the preakness!! could be a triple crown year. i feel i should explain my horse racing fascination. i have always loved horses, every christmas list that i would put together from the age i could speak until i was 16 was a list that had a horse and all the crap that accompanys them. (thank you daddy for finally caving!) add to my love of horses my competitive side and whala! horse racing! my lifelong dream was to become a large animal vet, work at churchill downs, then retire early and race/train/raise my own racehorses. i even had names picked out and was the only 12 year i knew who had a subscription to Thoroughbred Times. my favorite questions while playing trivial pursuit and other various trivia games in college included horse racing facts and listing the winners of the triple crown. no one liked when i asked the questions-mostly because it usually involved drinking if you got the answer wrong. so after the very devastating derby, big brown has won the preakness and is one race away from history, and not to completely give my age away, i was born the year of the last triple crown winner and have been patiently waiting to witness another.

so enough about that, i do not want to jinx anything, the rest of the weekend was a little league game, tough loss but the other guy who coaches the team who shall not be named wanted to protest the game, i think they should have let him, its coaches like that that make the whole experience not fun for kids, just once i would love to see nicks team beat that guy! the kid was totally out, the rules say they HAVE to slide at home if there is any type of play! the kid didnt even attempt to slide, very fishy!

after that we went to mystic to watch them re-launch a boat. i just thought it was cool because i saw them take the same boat out! saw my friend mike and let me just say he looks so GREAT! i had to do a double take to make sure it was him! way to go MOF!

on sunday, kevin and i took a drive up to cornwall and i got to go over the covered bridge. it was so cool and a gorgeous ride, and its little things like that, that just proves kevin loves me so much! he knew i would like it and was happy to show it too.

the covered bridge its one of the oldest, one lane and all! very very cool!

it was really windy yesterday, and when i say windy, i mean i could lean into the wind and be supported by it. with that thought in mind, we went to practice some in fielding. kevin was hitting ground balls to nick and another team mate. the field was fine, the grass a little high and kevin was not at all belting the ball at them, when low and behold a ground ball with eyes up and jumped into nicks face. in a slow motion moment, his hands immediately went to his mouth. my mind reacted two fold. first thought: be ready for lots of blood when he puts his hands down, be ready, be ready, be ready. no blood. second thought: how ironic it is that just twenty minutes beforehand, kevin told nick to sacrifice his body and not to worry, “we have dental insurance” i must admit i am proud of nick for the way he handled it, for the most part, he was mad at his dad because it hurt, and now he had to go to school with a fat lip (which by the way is hardly swollen, just a little red under his nose, kinda like he had been wiping it way to much) and everyone was going to see it. after a little break he got right back in there and fielded the best i have ever seen him field. it was like he learned how to fall and that it really wasn’t going to hurt too bad, plus all the time he is shouted at to use two hands, really does make sense now.

after dinner, we finished up homework and started watching a movie. for a little snack i decided to have some peanut butter and crackers. because the jar was pretty much finished, i decided to make hobbes’ night and offer him the jar. this is what followed:

notice the tongue!

and how he seems to protect the jar…

i totally made his night!

he even cleans himself up!

about fifteen minutes later the jar was as clean as a whistle!
